Library Study Spaces

While our Downtown Library does not have individual study rooms, it does offer carrel seating (see picture,) and numerous tables on our 1st Floor and Mezzanine Spaces.

Our Watts-Midtown Branch offers 2 study rooms that are available on a first-come, first-served basis at no cost. An additional conference room is available for booking at a fee. (Student use is available at no charge, as per our Meeting Room Policy.)

For more information about larger community spaces that may be booked at our Downtown, Southwest, and Watts-Midtown Branches, please see the Reserve a Room section of this website.

In 2022, The Rock Island Public Library was awarded a $50,000 grant for fiscal year 2022 from the Illinois State Library to help it transform library spaces for COVID resilience. Grant funds will be used to help the library welcome patrons back to our Downtown and Southwest locations with enhanced comfort, privacy, and service.

Many of those changes are now in place, including outdoor patio tables for reading, WiFi use, and programming; carrel-type seating for socially-distant study, and charging lockers and charging stationsfor more convenient charging of mobile technology. The library will be reimbursed from the grant.

Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA.)
